Serving Christ in Odessa, Ukraine
Therefore, having so vast a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, and throwing off everything that hinders us and especially the sin that so easily entangles us, let us keep running with endurance the race set before us, looking off to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb. 12:1,2
Odessa Theological Seminary:
Alfie has taught at the seminary since 2006 and has seen some of the good, bad and ugly. However, overall he considers it a valuable institution in preparing leaders in Ukraine, the former Soviet Union and beyond. OTS currently has 15 full time and part time programs that range from the certificate level to the Masters. The seminary has a desire to be financially stable and are dedication to provide Russian language instruction. They have regularly increased the amount of financial support they receive from local sources. In 2013, 14 and 15, they received almost 30% of their support from Ukrainian sources. Most of the professors and lecturers are Russian speakers.
In an attempt to help stabilize their financial situation without creating dependence, SEND Ukraine developed a plan to temporary provide funds for operating expenses. These funds were contingent on two conditions. The first was the availability of the funds. The second was that every year the seminary had to commit to try to develop in at least three areas of what we called “healthy characteristics of an educational institution”.
